The BRICS summit is scheduled for August 22–24, and leaders from the bloc, ambassadors, and other dignitaries are all set to be a part of the meeting. BRICS is looking to challenge the U.S. dollar by using local currencies to settle global trade. World Leaders Head to South Africa For BRICS Summit
China’s President Xi Jinping has flown to Johannesburg, South Africa, to attend the BRICS summit. “Chinese President Xi Jinping left Beijing on Monday for the 15th BRICS Summit to be held in Johannesburg, South Africa, and a state visit to South Africa,” Xinhua News reported.

India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi has departed from New Delhi for Johannesburg to attend the BRICS summit. India has a large delegation and would discuss bilateral ties with a host of countries. India’s Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra confirmed that Modi will also meet heads of African countries to discuss mutual partnerships on “sustainable development and inclusive multilateralism”.
“The PM’s schedule, in terms of bilateral meetings with those leaders who would be present in South Africa is still being developed,” he added.

Brazil’s President Luiz Lula da Silva is yet to leave the country for Johannesburg to attend the summit. This would be the first in-person summit in three years. The COVID-19 restrictions dampened previous summits, leading to virtual meetings. Also, Russia’s President Vladimir Putin will virtually attend the BRICS summit.
