Binance announced it is donating $100 in BNB to each user affected by the recent 7.8 magnitude earthquake that hit Turkey. The crypto exchange has released a statement noting its intention to airdrop the token to aid in potential relief efforts for affected users.
The massive earthquake that devastated both Turkey and Syria has claimed the lives of more than 52,000 people, according to recent estimates from CNN. Binance has taken this action to aid those who may have lost access to traditional banking due to the wide array of the devastation caused by the event.
Binance Announces Turkey Earthquake Relief Effort
A 7.8 magnitude earthquake has hit both Turkey and Syria and caused unparalleled devastation to the people who live there. CNN has reported the astronomical death toll while noting thousands of buildings have collapsed, where more than “4 million people were already relying on humanitarian resistance.”
In response, Binance has announced its intention to donate $100 in BNB to each user affected by the earthquake that hit Turkey. Stating they, “will airdrop BNB worth USD $100 to all Binance users identities to believing in the regions most affected by the tragedy.”
The press release additionally stated that users will be identified by a Proof of Address (POA) system. This identification system will be completed before Feb. 6 in ten primary cities. Moreover, the release stated that the POA method may not be perfect, but is the best option for the current circumstance. Collectively, the donations will “be around $5 million US (or 94,000,000 TRY).”
Conclsuvley, the press release noted, “In the aftermath of natural disasters, people often lose access to traditional banking at the exact moment when extra funds are needed to help cover medical supplies, food, and other essential needs.”
Additionally, stating “Our team is doing their part to ensure that Turkish Binancians and their families are safe and sound and are providing whatever assistance is required.”
