Apple (AAPL) will reportedly be paying rival phonemaker Samsung $250 per iPhone Duo sale for its foldable OLED screen technology. Samsung Display has signed a three-year exclusive supply agreement with Apple to provide foldable display panels for the iPhone Duo and future models, reports Chinese leaker Instant Digital.
The iPhone Duo is the first device on the market to feature Samsung’s M16 OLED material set, said to bring improvements to brightness, color performance, lifespan, and power efficiency over previous OLED generations. Apple unveiled the Duo on Wednesday and will reportedly pay around $250 per panel, making it one of the device’s priciest components. Neither Apple nor Samsung has confirmed the report.
Apple stock now has big potential entering the new iPhone season, as Wall Street is bullish post-Apple event. Shares of Apple, Inc. (AAPL) edged about 0.5% higher early Thursday, which is a nice change after three losing sessions in a row pushed the stock down to $315.34. Gene Munster, who’s a managing partner over at Deepwater Asset Management, raised his projection for how much of Apple’s fiscal 2027 iPhone revenue the iPhone Duo could bring in, doubling it from 5% up to 10%, and he’s calling it Apple’s biggest launch since the AirPods.
“The Duo matters because this is the first time since AirPods in December 2016 that Apple announced a new product people will really want,” Munster said this week.
