Prominent new agency, the Associated Press did not want to miss out on the NFT fun. With almost every platform diving into the NFT space, the Associated Press wanted to showcase its 175-year history, digitally.

Non-fungible tokens have been residing under the crypto spotlight for quite some time now. Initially, the crypto-verse was all about Bitcoin [BTC] and other prominent assets. However, the emergence of NFTs changed it all. There was a massive shift of attention from Bitcoin to NFTs. While Bitcoin remains the OG crypto, NFTs have certainly swooped people off their feet.

Merging history and journalism with the digital world, the Associated Press was all set to launch its own NFT marketplace. The marketplace will entail a wide range of photographs for collectors to purchase. This marketplace wouldn’t be limited to one or two industries, photographs with subjects such as space, war, as well as climate would reportedly be displayed.

Starting from 31 January, the work of the Associated Press photojournalist would be available for purchase on the firm’s imminent NFT marketplace.

Associated Press to employ Polygon blockchain for NFTs

The popular news agency was employing Polygon, an Ethereum layer-two scaling network for its NFTs. Polygon would solely be responsible for minting the photographs into NFTs. Additionally, a blockchain infrastructure firm, Xooa was formulating the marketplace for the Associated Press.

Zach Danker-Feldman, Xooa’s head of marketplaces commented on the latest collaboration and said,

“In this marketplace deployment, emphasis has been placed on accessibility for all types of collectors to empower them to join a community that shares their interest in stunning photography.”

The NFTs displayed would entail an array of data ranging from time, location, date, technicalities as well as equipment used to achieve the photograph.

The Associated Press and NFTs go way back. This definitely isn’t the first time the news agency was entering the NFT market. Previously, in association with Binance, the news platform featured 100 iconic news moments over the last 100 years.
