Following the country’s rejection of the BRICS invitation, Argentina’s new President, Javier Milei, has officially executed his first orders in office, while telling citizens the country has “no money.” Indeed, Milei has reduced the number of ministries the country has in one of the first actions taken by the administration.

Specifically, Milei decreased the overall number of ministers in the country. Moreover, he passed an order that restructured the cabinet through his first 13 initial decrees, according to Telam Digital. Additionally, his first speech as president saw him announce the implementation of government cuts that he had noted in his campaign. There, he detailed the dire state of the country’s economic situation.

Argentina President Restructures Cabinet Amid Economic Frailty

Throughout this year the BRICS alliance has sought to increase its overall impact and prevalence. Indeed, a key part of that was the announcement of a six-country expansion plan at its 2023 annual summit. However, despite the inclusion of nations like Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Argentina issued a rejection.

That decline came amid a regime change in the nation. Now, following its ceased ties with the BRICS bloc, Argentina’s new president has said that the country has “no money” amid his first official order. Indeed, Javier Milei instituted his first round of government budget cuts that saw a restructured office start to take shape.

The executive order saw the country maintain only nine operating ministries. These include areas such as Homeland, foreign relations, international trade, defense, economy, infrastructure, justice, security, and Health. Conversely, Milei ceased support for ministries encompassing environment, tourism, transportation, education, culture, employment, public works, special development, and women.

“The situation in Argentina is critical and an emergency,” Milei told citizens. “WE have no alternatives and we don’t have time either. We have no room for sterile discussions.” The developments occurred after the president’s aid stated there was no benefit to joining the BRICS economic alliance.
