ChatGPT was launched by OpenAI in Q4 2022 and it has taken the community by surprise with its abilities. In its most basic essence, it is a chatbot that is calibrated with supervised and reinforcement learning techniques.
Right from answering people’s queries, to assisting them with daily tasks, this chatbot has made people’s lives easier. Now, the AI bot has just passed the US Medical Licensing Exam.
A recent MedPage Today report highlighted that the test results showed “new and surprising evidence” of what this AI tool was capable of. According to Victor Tseng, MD, of Ansible Health in Mountain View, ChatGPT was able to perform at more than 50% accuracy across all of the exams. In fact, in most of their analyses, it achieved close to 60%.
Tseng and the team noted,
“ChatGPT performed at or near the passing threshold for all three exams without any specialized training or reinforcement.”
The team highlighted that it displayed “a high level of concordance and insight in its explanations.” Furthermore, they revealed,
“These results suggest that large language models may have the potential to assist with medical education, and potentially, clinical decision-making.”
ChatGPT clears other exams too
This is not the first examination that the AI tool has been able to pass. Quite recently, it also cleared the Wharton MBA exam.
While a few members of the community fear that technology could replace professionals, others believe that that it is a tool that could be leveraged to one’s advantage. For instance, a particular user on Twitter tweeted,
“AI is NOT replacing doctors, lawyers, or business professionals. It’s a tool that could make each better if used properly. Don’t fear technology. Learn to use it.“
