Donald Trump Considers JPMorgan’s Jamie Dimon as Treasury Secretary

Donald Trump is now considering JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon as his Treasury Secretary if elected President this fall. “He is somebody that I would consider, sure. He was at the meeting. Tim Cook was right next to him. You know, we had everybody,” Trump said, referring to the Business Roundtable meeting last month, claiming it was a “lovefest” from dozens of the country’s top executives.

Trump says that Jamie Dimon has “changed his tune” on Bitcoin, and may lean towards recognizing it in the future of economics if he joins Trump’s team. “Jamie Dimon was, you know, very negative, and now all of a sudden he’s changed his tune a little bit,” Trump told Bloomberg last month. Jamie Dimon has been one of the most outspoken economists against cryptocurrency, especially Bitcoin.

With Trump’s “pro-crypto” stance entering this election, choosing Dimon to be a member of his staff is bold. However, if he did successfully convince Dimon to side with the digital asset industry, it would be a big win for his candidacy.

Speaking on Bitcoin specifically, Dimon labeled it as a “fraud” and a “Ponzi scheme” in April. Dimon has said that if he was in government, he’d “shut it down,” and branded Bitcoin a “waste of time,” calling it a “pet rock” that “does nothing.” His stance on crypto has slightly improved in the direction of support, with JPMorgan creating its own blockchain and cryptocurrency, JPM coin. However, supporting Bitcoin would be something we haven’t seen yet from the JPMorgan CEO.

This week, Donald Trump named the pro-bitcoin and crypto former venture capitalist J.D. Vance as his 2024 running mate. His decisions surrounding his team have certainly been one of a “crypto president” thus far. Swaying Jamie Dimon towards Bitcoin support and adoption would be a big next step for the Republican nominee.

Trump is still expected to speak at the upcoming Bitcoin conference in Nashville, TN later this month.
