Play-to-earn (P2E) crypto games have taken the community by storm over the past year or so, tying the video game industry to NFTs and real-world benefits. With a variety of projects to choose from, here’s a list of the most popular P2E gaming projects, how to get started, and where to trade their in-game tokens.
Axie Infinity
Any crypto-related gaming list would be incomplete without the most widely known P2E game, Axie Infinity. The Vietnamese-based project is the biggest P2E game available at the moment, as per CoinMarketCap.
The game allows users to collect, breed, and trade NFTs known as ‘Axies’. Each Axie can cost between hundreds of thousands of dollars, depending on their statistics.
The game’s adventure mode pertains to completing daily tasks and missions, while the battle mode involves fighting against opponents’ Axies. Battling also allows players to earn Small Love Potion (SLP) which can be used to strengthen Axie creatures. SLP can also be converted directly into cash through multiple exchanges, including Binance. However, since a minimum of 3 Axies is needed to get started on the platform, new players would need to invest close to $100.
Alien Worlds
Launched in December 2020, Alien World’s is a metaverse-based video game through which players can earn Trilium (TLM) game tokens. As part of the metaverse, users can perform missions to mine TLM, participate in elections, and even run for planetary council.
TLM can be earned through literally ‘mining’ for the token on virtual plots of land and it takes is a virtual shovel. Certain ‘luck’ statistics of the tools used while mining determines chances of finding NFTs or even more powerful mining tools.
The platform is becoming increasingly popular within the community. In less than a year after its launch, the game hit 11 Million daily transactions and became the “No. 1 Most Played Blockchain Game” as per data provider, DappRadar. Those wishing to trade their TLMs can visit Huobi, one of China’s leading crypto exchanges.
Battle of Guardians
Developed by Unreal Engine, the gaming machine behind popular video games titles Street Fighter, and Mortal Kombat, Battle of Guardians does a smart job at tying fantasy concepts to crypto. The game features humans, demons, guardians, portals, and much more.
Players can earn cash through selling in-game NFT on an official marketplace available on the platform or through battling against other users. Additionally, two kinds of in-game currencies, Battle of Guardians Share (BGS) and Fighting Points (FP), can be staked to earn rewards.
Although the tokens are not easily available on public platforms, Coinbase has provided several alternatives.
