As previously stated, eBay provides users with power over the secondhand market. Auctions are present that allow the purchase of items at a price agreed to by market demand. Alternatively, the process of retracting a bid is one of note for users.

According to eBay, retracting a bid can take place in only a select few circumstances. When a bid is placed, the user is agreeing to purchase the item after the auction, if they do maintain the highest bid. Yet, a retraction is possible only in a select few cases.

It is important to know that a retraction is not always possible. Moreover, you are only able to retract a bid, under those specific circumstances, or up to an hour after the bid is made. Alternatively, it can only occur when the listing is set to end in less than 12 hours.

eBay states that a bid retraction can only occur in two circumstances:

  1. The description of the item posted by the seller has been “significantly changed.” Specifically, your bid reflects information that has drastically altered since the time it was made.
  2. The wrong amount was bid. Specifically, if you bid $200, but meant $20, the bid can be retracted. However, you are only able to enter the intended bid price when the retraction takes place.

In all other cases, eBay does not allow bids to be retracted. Subsequently, if you are seeking to cancel a bid in any other case, it is vital to contact the seller and discuss a bid cancellation with them. However, that seller is not required to agree to cancellation according to eBay policies.
