There was a time back last year when Dogecoin unhesitatingly used to dance to Elon Musk’s music. Tweets posted on social media, appearances made on shows, and statements made in interviews—almost every action of the Tesla executive used to take the largest meme-coin a step closer to ‘the moon,’ as labeled by the community.
However, not everyone was over the moon with Musk’s actions. Back in mid-June, for instance, a $258 billion lawsuit was filed against Musk and his companies for allegedly running a Dogecoin pyramid scheme and driving up the price of the asset by more than 36,000% over two years and then letting it crash.

The plaintiffs of the said lawsuit aren’t alone. The Dogecoin creator is also “annoyed” at the self-proclaimed Dogefather for trying to send the crypto “to the moon.” The Dogecoin creator said to Business Insider recently that he saw Musk’s interest in Dogecoin as a tactic, a means to “latch onto communities” in an effort to “absorb them into his cult of personality.”
Per Palmer, this doesn’t stop with merely Dogecoin. He added,
“He does this on several topics. Look at how a lot of the free speech, right-wingers have all kind of become big Elon Musk supporters. That’s beneficial to him because he’s kind of building his army, taking in the tribes of all these different kinds of misfit communities that are extremely dedicated and extremely passionate.”
Flashback
Well, it’s a known fact that Palmer and Musk share a bitter relationship with each other. Back in May this year, the Dogecoin co-creator called Elon Musk a “grifter” who had trouble running basic code. He further exclaimed that,
“He’s just really good at pretending he knows.”
Reverting back to the same on Twitter, the Tesla executive went on to assert that his kids could have written better code at the age of 12. He further contended that Palmer “never wrote a single line of Dogecoin code,” and labeled him a “tool.”
Taking along similar lines to Insider, the Dogecoin creator recalled that the same was a sobering incident. More so, because Musk fans descended on him. Furthermore, he said,
“I’ve made a conscious effort since then to not talk about him because it’s not worth it. I can let them have their fantasies.”
Palmer wants to cut ties with Dogecoin?
Every now and then, Palmer is dragged into the Dogecoin arena whenever something out of the blue cooks. Talking about the same, he said that he was tired of being “dragged” into conversations around the currency he helped create over eight years ago. At the time, he saw Dogecoin as a “hobby,” but now it’s become a nuisance, per him.
Palmer said,
“It all kind of annoyed me because it was this thing that had my name tied to it. I don’t think people realize it, but I wish that when something happened with Dogecoin and Elon Musk and my Dogecoin cofounder Billy [Markus] that I didn’t get dragged back into it.”
He added,
“Even when I had completely deleted all social media it continued to follow me around like a bad smell.”
