No Federal Payments Have Been Authorized

The last federal stimulus distribution actually happened back in 2021, when eligible Americans received $1,400 recovery rebate credits. Between December 2024 and also January 2025, automatic payments were issued by the IRS to some people who didn’t claim the recovery rebate credit on their 2021 tax returns. The final deadline for this passed on April 15, 2025, and no extensions have been granted.

IRS commissioner Danny Werfel stated:

“The IRS continues to work hard to make improvements and help taxpayers. These payments are an example of our commitment to go the extra mile for taxpayers. Looking at our internal data, we realized that one million taxpayers overlooked claiming this complex credit when they were actually eligible.”

Trump’s Tariff Dividend Proposal

An IRS direct deposit update of sorts came from President Trump himself on Truth Social. In his most recent post on November 9, Trump stated:

“A dividend of at least $2000 a person (not including high-income people!) will be paid to everyone.”

The 2025 stimulus check IRS proposal involves using tariff revenue to fund these payments, along with a pledge that leftover funds would go toward paying down the country’s $37 trillion national debt. But these tariff revenue payments haven’t been approved by Congress and remain just proposals at this point. Any future 2025 stimulus check IRS payment would require new legislation and even official authorization.

The IRS direct deposit November situation has created opportunities for scammers right now. Viral posts have falsely claimed a $1,390 IRS direct deposit relief payment was coming to taxpayers. Michael Cohn, online editor in chief of Accounting Today, told Yahoo Finance:

“Tax-related myths and scams seem to proliferate on a regular basis, especially around the tax filing deadlines, but they can spread anytime of the year, especially through social media. Tax rebates and stimulus checks are a perennial source of speculation, particularly during times of economic uncertainty.”

The IRS never initiates contact through email, texts, or even social media platforms. Real IRS direct deposit correspondence always begins with an official letter or notice. Right now, no 2025 stimulus check IRS payments are scheduled for the remainder of 2025. Any future IRS direct deposit relief payment would require Congressional approval along with official IRS confirmation before distribution occurs.
