Platforms all around the globe across several industries have been veering into the digital world. The sports industry has always tended to be tech-adoptive. Over the last couple of months, prominent football clubs have joined the metaverse. Premier League Club Liverpool FC was the latest to catch the digital bug.
According to a recent announcement, the football club teamed up with Meta, social media and metaverse giant. Through this partnership, Liverpool FC intends to roll out a range of virtual apparel for Meta’s digital avatars. Fans will be allowed to customize their digital avatars with Liverpool FC. This includes the club’s label lifestyle collection and the home kit.
The Meta Avatars Store was launched back in June and it seems to have caught the attention of the entire globe. With Liverpool FC’s latest move, fans can buy virtual merchandise on the Meta Avatars Store on either Facebook or Instagram. This, however, is only available to users in the U.S., Thailand, Spain, Mexico, Canada, the UK, and Italy.
Through this, Liverpool FC emerged as the very first Premier League club to roll out its virtual merchandise on Meta Avatar Store.
Liverpool FC to bring “global family closer”
Elaborating on the football club’s latest venture, Drew Crisp, SVP for digital at Liverpool Football Club said,
“This is another fantastic opportunity for our global fanbase to digitally engage with Liverpool Football Club and create their own individual club-colored avatars. Having a digital connection to the club that our fans adore – whether they’re here, near or far – is so important and helps to bring our global family closer together when physical connections aren’t always possible.”
Crisp further pointed out that the club entails over 70 million global supporters following on social media
Manchester City FC, Barcelona FC, Brazilian football club Club de Regatas Vasco da Gama, as well as Birmingham City FC have all steered towards the metaverse.
