Non-fungible tokens (NFT) have had their fair share of ups and downs. When they broke into the mainstream limelight in 2021, they were on everybody’s radar. A year later, the NFT hype seems to have all but died. Moreover, many gaming studios have been against the use of NFTs on their platforms. Minecraft creator, Mojang Studios, has also said that they are against the integration of non-fungibles into their titles.
The firm had stated,
“NFTs can create models of scarcity and exclusion that conflict with our Guidelines and the spirit of Minecraft.”
Nonetheless, interest in integrating NFTs into the game remained among a fraction of gamers and developers. That interest has led blockchain gaming firm Enjin and MyMetaverse to integrate non-fungible tokens into Minecraft. According to Kertonegoro, numerous servers have broken the non-fungible token regulations for Minecraft, which were intended to safeguard gamers from unpleasant encounters.
They did this without breaching the terms and conditions of the game. They achieved this by eliminating all pay-to-win non-fungibles and making their finest NFTs completely free to earn.
While speaking to CoinTelegraph, MyMetaverse CEO Simon Kertonegoro said that the firm wanted to show the game studio that non-fungibles could be integrated into the game in a way that would benefit the players and the industry as a whole.
What about NFTs on GTA 5?
In addition to being compatible with Minecraft, MyMetaverse’s NFTs may also be used in other games, such as the Grand Theft Auto 5 (GTAV) server and its own massively multiplayer online (MMO) game, Infinity Realm.
According to Kertonegoro,
“These different games, read the user’s wallet, see that they own the NFT and provide them different benefits in the games. […] In Minecraft, this NFT is a sword. In GTA the NFT is a car and in Infinity Realms, the NFT is a house.”
According to Oscar Franklin Tan, CFO of Enjin, having NFTs that work in various games is an important cornerstone for the development of the metaverse. Furthermore, he says that interoperability leads to the formation of a greater community.
In an earlier study, it was said that the metaverse would push NFT use. Although the industry is in its nascent stages at the moment, there is no denying the fact that it will only grow. Moreover, the gaming industry is at the heart of the space.
