NATO member Turkey has expressed interest and officially submitted the application on Monday to join the BRICS alliance. Turkey is seeking to bolster its influence on the global stage and expand trade beyond its traditional Western allies. The nation is aiming to improve its ties with both the East and the West and extend cordial relations with other developing countries.

NATO Member Turkey Wants To Join BRICS Alliance

Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan aims to stand in support of both sides of the world as the shift in geopolitics is experiencing a paradigm shift. “Turkey can become a strong, prosperous, prestigious, and effective country if it improves its relations with the East and the West simultaneously,” said Erdogan, taking into account of both BRICS and NATO. “Any method other than this will not benefit Turkey, but will harm it,” he said.

Turkey is now the first NATO member to ever consider joining the BRICS bloc. The move could also make other emerging economies follow the same path to strengthen their native economies. This adds pressure on the US and Western allies as the number of countries going against its global financial control is increasing.

Developing countries in Asia, Africa, and Eastern Europe will look to challenge NATO through BRICS similar to Turkey. The decision to induct Turkey and other countries will be consensus-based and will be taken at the BRICS summit. The 16th summit is scheduled to be held from October 22 to 24 in the Kazan region of Russia.
