A new HBO documentary covering Bitcoin will reportedly uncover the identity of the cryptocurrency’s pseudonymous create: Satoshi Nakamoto. Nakamoto’s true identity has been argued and speculated for over a decade. A potential resolution to this debate could send ripples through the crypto industry, answering one of the biggest questions in crypto: who is the Bitcoin whitepaper writer?

Cullen Hoback is an Emmy-nominated American film producer and director, and the man behind the new HBO documentary. The doc is titled “Money Electric: The Bitcoin Story.” It will be released on Wednesday, October 8 at 9 pm ET exclusively on HBO. The documentary will be viewable on HBO’s MAX streaming service and explores the origins of Bitcoin and its rise to infamy.

Bitcoin has experienced immense growth over the last year and quickly become the biggest cryptocurrency in the world. From humble beginnings on select crypto exchanges to being offered by US banks as an exchange-traded fund, Bitcoin has forever changed the financial landscape and put cryptocurrency on the map.

“Money Electric” HBO Documentary Discusses Bitcoin’s Rise and US Dollar Rivalry

“Money Electric” also touches on Bitcoin’s growth in popularity, with some saying it could rival the US dollar. Bitcoin has been argued as both a potential savior and a downfall to the greenback. Even as a US presidential election looms, both candidates have discussed cryptocurrency policies thanks to the rising prominence of Bitcoin. The cryptocurrency is speculated to have been an idea by Nakamoto to undermine the Federal Reserve. One person in the documentary suggests it may or may not have been the founder’s “master plan.” It also claims that federal agencies are battling with Bitcoin and crypto to avoid having the currency dethrone the US dollar.

There is even debate featured in the documentary that Satoshi Nakamoto collaborated with the US government in some capacity. A person who claims to be in close contact with the founder after Bitcoin’s launch is interviewed in the film. One person also says that perhaps Satoshi Nakamoto isn’t one person, but a group of people. The trailer doesn’t give enough away to reveal Nakamto’s identity though. Therefore, viewers will have to wait until next Tuesday to learn more.

Satoshi Nakomoto’s identity has become a puzzling debate in pop culture and is one of the few questions in crypto that doesn’t have a clear answer. The upcoming Bitcoin documentary from HBO appears to be ready to answer that. However, it will be interesting to see how Bitcoin performs following the unveiling of the program. Bitcoin tends to react to news surrounding it, and the audience’s reception to “Money Electric” could shape a potential surge or plummet for the king coin.
