The Polygon (MATIC) network has experienced a 12-hour outage after a glitch in the protocol sequencer. Indeed, the zero-knowledge Ethereum Virtua Machine (zkEVM) faced extensive downtime that was undoubtedly concerning to many users.

The development led to widespread worry regarding the network block production over the downtime. Moreover, the situation led the way to a myriad of scalability and reliability concerns that are a byproduct of events like this. Subseuqnlety, the outage caused some users to compare the network to Solana.

Polygon zkEVM Down For 12 Hours

Within digital asset technology, the continued development of networks is vitally important. Many blockchains compete based on a plethora of factors regarding their performance; including their reliability, security, and other notable metrics. One popular network faced an unfortunate outage that began to raise questions regarding some of these facets.

Polygon (MATIC) has seen its zkEVM network suffer a 12-hour outage earlier today. Moreover, the network released a statement to X (Formerly Twitter) where they gave context to the situation. In that post, they noted that its “zkEVM Mainnnet Beta faced an issue with its sequencer due to an L1 reorg.”

Moreover, they said that they were working on the resolution of the issue, and would “follow up with a detailed post-mortem.” Additionally, they noted that the issue did not affect Polygon PoS, Polygon CDK, “or any chain that has deployed using Polygon CDK>”

According to Polygonscan, the network appears to have corrected the issue and is showing activity. However, there has not been a subsequent statement with more detailed information regarding the outage. Alternatively, Polygon expressed their excitement regarding the planned release of the zkEVM second gen in the coming weeks.
