Solana [SOL] has had a great start to the year with its rising prices. While being lauded for its uptrend, the network was scrutinized for congestion issues. However now, the Solana network has taken proactive measures to address the congestion issues by rolling out a major update to its validator client software. Solana Labs’ Anza revealed version 1.17.31 which will look into alleviating the impact of spam transactions bogging down the Solana network.

A prominent feature of this update is the stake-weighted quality of service [SWQOS]. It is a mechanism tailored to enhance the efficiency of transaction processing from staked validators. Elaborating on the same, Tim Garcia, validator relations lead at the Solana Foundation noted how SWQOS serves as a networking concept prioritizing certain packets or connections for enhanced reliability and performance. Presently, 80% of connections are designated for QoS, with the remaining 20% available to all users.

Amidst this, Anza took to X [formerly Twitter] and urged MainnetBeta validators to adopt the newer version. The network even assured that the enhancements bundled within would further alleviate network congestion. Trent.sol highlighted the importance of broad adoption, noting that the impact of SWQOS improvements would scale with adoption breadth. Rex St. John reiterated the urgency of updates, clarifying that further enhancements are planned in subsequent releases.
