To commemorate the deal with Cash App, Ngannou will be giving away $300,000 in Bitcoins to the public. He has asked people to follow Cash App on Twitter while dropping their $cashtag, and using the PaidInBitcoin hashtag. It was of no surprise that fans lost no time in posting their replies and queuing up for the rewards.

Francis Ngannou said via his tweet that he believes the original cryptocurrency can empower people everywhere and that he wants to make it more accessible to his fans.

Is Bitcoin becoming an acknowledged mode of payment?

Francis Ngannou is the latest sports star to flock to Bitcoin for payment, and surely won’t be the last. Last year, NFL player Odell Beckham Jr had also partnered with Cash App to accept his payments in Bitcoin, while also giving away $1 Million worth of Bitcoins in a giveaway. Aaron Rodgers, too, had partnered with Cash App to receive a portion of his payments in Bitcoin.

This news only further solidifies Bitcoin’s position in the financial world. Cryptocurrencies are becoming more broadly acknowledged, with many believing they have more value potential. Many of the world’s highest-paid athletes are now asking for their salary and other benefits to be paid in crypto.

As cryptocurrencies have become more and more popular, is it slowly becoming an accepted form of remuneration. Although this aspect has yet to cross over to the mainstream public, it sure is a sign of development in the right direction.
