As geopolitical tension rises, the United States and China look to be headed toward a brewing trade war. Both sides look no closer to any kind of resolution as tariffs and retaliatory taxes abound. That faceoff took another step forward Tuesday as US President Donald Trump is reportedly looking to ban China from buying American farmland.
The president is leading the charge to find a “federal solution” to ensure China doesn’t buy any more farmland in the country, US Secretary Brooke Rollins told Breitbart News chief Matthew Boyle. Additionally, in 2024, two-thirds of states were considering measures to inflict a similar ban on the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) land-buying practices.

US President Trump Seeking ‘Federal Solution’ to China’s Purchasing of American Farmland
Throughout 2024, Donald Trump promised to enact aggressive economic policy. The plan was centered on the hope of balancing out trade. Moreover, they would preserve the US dollar as a global reserve asset. Just two months into his return to the Oval Office, he had made good on that promise. Indeed, Trump has already enacted reciprocal tariffs that look to make good on that goal.
During that process, the talks of a trade war began to manifest. Specifically, China has stood against those import taxes as they have engaged in growing tensions with teh country. Those may only get worse, as US President Donald Trump is looking to ban China from buying American farmland.
According to Breitbart’s Matthew Boyle, US Secretary Rollins confirmed the Trump administration is seeking a ‘federal solution’ to China’s practice of buying American land. Moreover, she notes that it is a cause many of the 50 United States are behind.

“With my experience in the States, I am a huge, huge believer in the laboratories of democracy,” Rollins said. She noted that “for the last several years,” her America First Policy Institute has worked with states to pass legislation addressing the concern. Moreover, she noted that the organization is “looking at a federal solution too.”
Rollins added that “a lot of that land” that China controls in the US “is around some of our military outposts.” Altogether, the plan will only stoke the flames of resentment between both sides.
The news comes after China recently condemned the US and its “tariff shocks” to the World Trade Organization. Specifically. they warned they would “upend the global trading system and could risk a global recession,” according to a Reuters report.
