The U.S. stock market is closed today on Monday (February 17, 2025) on the occasion of Presidents Day. The holiday comes honoring President Washington who celebrates his birth anniversary on this day. While the holiday was designated to honor Washington, it now extends to all Presidents to commemorate their services.
After closing Friday’s bell on February 14, 2025, the US stock market will now open only on Tuesday, February 18. Both the Nasdaq and New York Stock Exchanges (NYSE) will be closed in honor of Presidents Day.

U.S. Stock Market After Presidents Day


Apart from the stock market, the U.S. bond market will also be closed on Presidents Day. However, Federal banks, currency markets, commodities, and the broader global financial market will remain open for trading. The gold market (XAU/USD) will also trade uninterrupted on Presidents Day.

Moreover, several commercial banks will be closed on Presidents Day. Moreover, the U.S. stock market will see pre-market and after-hours trading sessions available known as Extended Markets. The pre-market trading session will open from 4:00 am to 9:30 am, Eastern Time Zone. In addition, the after-hours are 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Eastern Time Zone. The timings may differ as each broker has marked a different trading time for pre-market and after-hours.
Also, only those eligible to trade in these special hours will be allowed to initiate buying and selling of stocks. The extended U.S. stock market trade carries bigger risks as they’re known for high volatility. They consist of less liquidity that tends to make prices move up or down dramatically.
