Linda Yaccarino, the CEO of X (formerly Twitter) says that the new X platform payment system, X Money, will launch in 2025. In a post to the social platform on Tuesday, Yaccarino looked to the new year, sharing the latest upcoming innovation to X. “In 2024, X changed the world,” the post reads. “Now, YOU are the media! 2025 X will connect you in ways never thought possible. X TV, X Money, Grok, and more.”
Elon Musk’s social media platform underwent several changes in 2024. Musk, Yaccarino, and other X representatives also issued plenty of announcements for the platform’s future. Rumors circulated last year of X incorporating cryptocurrencies like Dogecoin into the site’s new payment system. Now, the platform will reportedly have its own unique currency, further staking Musk’s claim that X will be an “everything app.”
Last year, X Payments LLC worked on obtaining money transmission licenses and receiving approval in 14 states for the payments feature. The creation of a dedicated X payments account, distinguished by a gold verification badge indicating official status and the recognizable X badge, also intensified anticipation for the payment system. While Yaccarino did not mention anything about cryptocurrencies on X, Elon Musk’s influence will surely keep the door open for crypto integration on the platform.

Furthermore, X’s CEO hasn’t revealed a date yet for X TV or X Money’s launch. However, the news bodes well for fans of the platform who hope to execute transactions in a new currency. It’s unknown how the X Money will tie to fiat currency. However, it’s likely that the currency will work by trading in fiat on X in exchange for the new currency. Uses for the X money on the platform outside of peer-to-peer transactions remains unknown. However, here are some possibilities:
- Purchasing subscription-based content on X.
- Trading X Money for Cryptocurrency
- Paying for post visibility on the For-You page.
At the time of writing, Musk has yet to comment on the upcoming X-Money launch.
