X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, is looking to remove the ability for users to block accounts. Elon Musk tweeted earlier Friday that X will remove blocking as a feature, except for Direct Messages.

However, according to the App Store policies and Google Play policies, this is against the terms and conditions for apps in the stores. Both the App Store and Google Play store outline the need for apps with user-generated content to offer a blocking feature to prevent abuse and bullying. As a result, if X removed the ability to block users, it may be removed from the App Store and Google Play.

With the current block system, if you block someone, they cannot DM you or comment on your posts. In addition, they won’t be able to see your posts. Musk says that with the removal of blocking, you will be able to mute accounts and block users for DMs.

Before X, Twitter was featured in app stores for years. Now, with the latest news from Musk, X may be removed from the app stores on mobile devices. This wouldn’t affect the web version of X. However, users on Android, iPhone, tablets, and other non-PC platforms may lose the ease of the X application.

It is unknown when exactly the new change will take place. Musk is currently visiting Japan for the first time in over nine years, amid the ongoing transition process for the platform.
