Venezuela’s president, Nicolas Maduro, has recently said that the country is set to join the BRICS alliance “soon,” during a recent television appearance. Indeed, the country has long sought to be included in the bloc’s expansion efforts. However, could VEnezuela be ready to join the BRICS collective as early as 2024?
The bloc made headlines when it announced 6 nations to be included in an inaugural expansion plan during its 2023 annual summit. Of those invited countries, five have opted to join the alliance heading into the new year. Subsequently, the bloc has previously confirmed that it will institute a similar expansion plan this year.

Venezuela President Confirms Intential to Join BRICS
Throughout this last year, the BRICS economic alliance has seen impressive growth on a global scale. Indeed, the economic bloc has banded together to focus on its presence within the global economy. Moreover, it has created a collective that is envied by a plethora of nations seeking entry.
Amid talk of continued growth plans, Venezuela could be set to join the BRICS economic alliance in 2024. Indeed, the country has seen its president, Nicolas Maduro, assure of its interest in becoming a member of the growing economic bloc. Moreover, he noted that the inclusion of the South American country will take place soon.

“The trend of the emergency of a new world and the consolidation of BRICS is irreversible,” Maduro said during a television appearance. Additionally, he stated that “Venezuela will soon be part of BRICS,” during the appearance.
Maduro also spoke glowingly about the role of BRICS in the world, and its continued evolution of a global order. Indeed, he stated that the “old colonial world with wars, interventions, genocide and a superiority complex,” will be replaced with “a new world with BRICS.”
The alliance’s six-nation invitation to the 2024 summit was its first growth effort since 2001. However, many do not expect it to be its last. Specifically, there is the understanding that even more countries will be included in the bloc at the upcoming 2024 summit. With so many nations interested in joining, such expansion plans would be a vital geopolitical development.
