Women have been tirelessly fighting to close the gender wage gap for decades. While this gap has been slowly shrinking compared to a couple of years ago, the cryptocurrency industry seems to be standing out for its “reversed” gender wage gap. A recent study shows that women in crypto are earning 15% more than men in the same field.
The Panthers Research Lab surveyed 502 full-time employees based in the United States. This was carried out between June 4 and July 20, 2024. According to the study, full-time working women in the crypto business in the United States made a median pay of $172,000. The same figure for men was at $150,000. It should be noted that women working outside the crypto industry make about $0.84 for every dollar that men make. In the crypto industry, women make $1.15 for every $1 that a man makes.
How Are Women Making More Money?
Women have a median salary of 5.3 years at crypto enterprises, compared to men’s 4.5 years, which may account for some of the gender pay gap. Additionally, a higher percentage of women hold mid-level to senior roles, according to the researchers. Men usually take over entry-level positions in the crypto market.
Speaking about this disparity, Pantera’s researchers said,
“Our analysis finds that gender wage differentials among crypto employees are the reverse of what is normally observed. The relatively fair wages in crypto suggest a move toward greater gender equity, marking a progressive trend in this fairly new field.”

Women Continue to Face Hurdles
Another study highlighted the fact that only three of the 50 leading crypto CEOs in 2023 were female. Pantera’s research also said,
“It is important to recognize that women still likely continue to face hurdles and obstacles in this industry.”
