Airbnb, the online hospitality company, first mentioned cryptocurrency in January 2022. Following a flood of demands from the community, the company’s CEO, Brian Chesky, decided to investigate cryptocurrency. Now, as part of its efforts to assist Ukrainians affected by the conflict, Airbnb has chosen to provide shelter for refugees. Crypto was certain to come up in this conversation. Here’s what Chesky had to say regarding cryptocurrency’s inclusion.

Ukrainians have been robbed of their freedom and houses following the invasion of Russia. As the war-torn country seeks shelter, Airbnb decided to tend to this request. The hospitality firm decided to provide housing for about 100,000 refugees of the country.

In relation to the same, it was noted that payment networks had been affected to the point where the Ukrainian government was requesting donations in cryptocurrency. As a result, Chesky was questioned if Airbnb would take cryptocurrency during such a period. While acknowledging that such a large-scale adoption would be challenging at this time, he stated,

“I’m personally supportive of the idea of #crypto…I have a team looking into that. Specific to this crisis nothing is going to be able to be implemented probably that quickly.”

Despite implying that Chesky had a team working at incorporating cryptocurrency, he apparently had no substantial announcements at the moment. He further wrapped off by adding that the present priority of Airbnb was on providing free short-term lodging for refugees.

Airbnb and crypto

After topping the list of recommendations for the year 2022, cryptocurrency drew Airbnb’s attention. Chesky saw that the incorporation of cryptocurrency was the main pick out of 4,000. Several networks then went on to pitch the CEO on their particular assets. He confirmed that various assets may be a component of the hospitality organization while skimming over these proposals.

The integration of these assets might happen sooner than envisaged, owing to a team now looking into crypto.
