Reuters has reported that Elon Musk’s medical device company, Neuralink, is under federal investigation over its animal testing. The report notes that complaints from employees have triggered the probe into potential animal-welfare violations.
The billionaire has been in the headlines plenty since his highly publicized acquisition of Twitter. Yet, his actions with the social media platform are now taking a backseat to the federal probe into Neuralink
Neuralink Investigated Over Animal Testing
Elon Musk’s well-known medical device company, Nueralink, is now facing a federal investigation over its animal testing. Moreover, Reuters has reported that the investigation has been issued due to various staff complaints.
The official complaint states that “animal testing is being rushed, causing needless suffering and deaths,” according to Reuters. Furthermore, the investigation is said to have been opened in recent months by the U.S. Department of Agricultural Inspector General. It had not been publicly reported until now.
Reuters stated, “Nueralink is developing a brain implant it hopes will help paralyzed people walk again and cure other neurological ailments.” Additionally, the federal probe is specifically focused on how that pursuit could violate the Animal Welfare Act. The act governs how various researchers and companies treat and test animals.
The investigation has come following complaints that pressure from CEO Elon Musk has accelerated development. Thereafter leading to “botched experiments,” on tested animals. Conclusively, Reuters notes that complaints have been issued by “more than 20 current and former employees.”
