According to a Tweet from DogeDesigner, Elon Musk is still set to take Dogecoin to the literal moon in 2023. The Twitter CEO has been hard at work in developing his social media platform, but it seems as though the dream of SpaceX putting Dogecoin on the actual moon is a very real one.
The Tweet relayed to the DOGE community that SpaceX is still scheduling the launch of DOGE-1 during the third quarter of 2023. The space expedition will seek to enter the lunar orbit during a mission that was funded entirely by Dogecoin.
DOGE Still Set on Reaching the Moon in 2023
Elon Musk is a divisive entity in many respects and is well-known for many things. One of those is his self-proclaimed status as the Dogefather. The billionaire is connected to SpaceX, Tesla, and Twitter, but has an undeniable connection with the community behind the world’s most popular meme coin.
That connection has led to Musk’s proclamation that “SpaceX is going to put a literal Dogecoin on the literal moon.” Many had thought that the statement was April fool’s joke at the time, but it turns out that the mission is a go, and set for this year.
According to a Tweet from DogeDesigner, SpaceX has made it known that DOGE-1 is scheduled to conduct its mission in the third quarter of this year. That’s right, Elon Musk is set to take Dogecoin to the literal moon in 2023.
U.Today notes that SpaceX was paid in Dogecoin for the mission, by Geometric Energy Corporation (GEC). Moreover, it becomes the first space mission to ever be completely funded by a cryptocurrency, while also becoming, “the unit of account for the lunar business, per GEC chief executive Samuel Reid.”
