Who travels the most on holidays for fun? It’s mostly the millennials and youngsters. Who invested heavily in cryptocurrencies? The answer is millennials and youngsters. Who owns a major share of meme-tokens? Well, the answer is again millennials and youngsters. Airbnb can benefit massively by accepting Shiba Inu, Dogecoin, and other meme-tokens as a form of payment and give the much-needed boost to their dwindling business.
The world has come to a standstill since March 2020 as Covid-19 raised its ugly head creating havoc. The hospitality and hotel industry is among the hardest hit sector as traveling and holidays came to a screeching halt. Airbnb is among the hardest-hit company as its Q1 losses stood at $1.17 billion. Though it shared a letter to its stakeholders that ‘travel is starting to return’ the Omicron variant put a stop to it.
A famous anonymous saying goes, “Innovation is anything, but business as usual.” Businesses need multiple ways of income to scale up sustainably and failing to do so will lead to their death. To survive in the market, businesses need to act according to the times and deliver as per the customers’ needs.
If Airbnb accepts cryptocurrencies as payment, this would thrill the crypto community and many groups might make their holiday plans. In addition, pictures of holidaying on a beach would receive captions on social media as “I paid through xyz crypto.” The development in return could lure more people to go on holidays and give Airbnb much-needed life support.
Once millennials pay through cryptos for their stay, they would continue to do it for years to come. It’s only a matter of time before they find it to be an easier alternative to fiat currency.
Shiba Inu and other meme-token Communities Jump on the Airbnb Bandwagon
The meme-token community is all over Twitter today urging the CEO of Airbnb Brian Chesky to accept their favorite token. Considering that he’s mentioned on Twitter that crypto payments are a “top suggestion”, there are high chances cryptos might be accepted.
However, questions now arise as to which cryptos would Airbnb accept as a form of legal payment. That decision is up to the management and we’ll have to wait and watch for an official confirmation.
In the end, all forms of money are money. Companies need to make decisions quickly before Covid-19 eats up their business.
