Advanced Micro Devices, Inc (AMD) stock price recently climbed to a new all-time high of $615. The company’s market cap also finally breached the highly coveted $1 trillion mark. While AMD has hit new heights over the last few years, the company’s stock has not had a spilt since the year 2000. The stock faced three 3-for-2 splits and two 2-for-1 splits between 1978 and 1983. Then came the last 2-for-1 split in August 2000. With prices above $600, let’s discuss if the company is heading for its first stock split in the 21st century.
Is AMD Heading For A Stock Split Soon?

AMD has had a historic run since CEO Lisa Su came to the helm. The company’s stock price has surged from about $3 in 2014 to over $600 twelve years later. Despite the massive gain, the company’s board has not split the stock even once.
Additionally, AMD’s stock price hitting $600 does not represent a dip in the supply of stocks. Instead, it shows a stock repricing. AMD reported about1.63 billion outstanding shares at the end of June 2026, which is about the same as a year before. While the number of stocks has remained the same, the price of each share has grown nearly 3x.

While it has been two and a half decades since AMD’s last stock split, there is no indication from the board that such a move is indeed in development. However, a stock split could lead to more buyers. A stock for $615 may be too expensive for many retail investors, but a $120ish price may lead to more retail interest.
AMD is expected to continue its incredible run, with Wall Street analyst remaining bullish on the stock. The company’s data center business is expected to skyrocket over the coming years as AI demand continues to surge.
