The World Cup victory for Argentina was one of the most watched moments in the history of sports. Lionel Messi and the national team left Qatar victorious over 80 other teams in the massive tournament. Now, that victory is extending beyond the pitch, as the Argentina Football League has announced a partnership with metaverse platform, Upland.
Cointelegraph was the first to report the landmark deal between the Argentine Football Association (AFA) and Upland. The country’s top professional football league will now make its first steps into the metaverse, as the licensing agreement with the Silicon Valley firm has been made official.
Argentina Football is now in the Metaverse
The deal between the AFA and Upland is one that will place the Liga Profesional de Fútbol (LPF) within the metaverse. The platform is set to host the league via a licensing agreement. Moreover, the hope is that fan engagement between Argentine football fans will grow through the platform.
Cointelegraph noted that the agreement is set to include a host of digital collectibles. Ranging from “teams, clubs, players, tickets, highlights from games, historical moments, and other exclusive offers.” Thus, bridging the gap further between Argentinean football and the metaverse.
The licensing agreement represents the first of its kind from Upland. The deal will present exclusive ownership of LPF highlights. Furthermore, various NFTs are primed to bring the LPF a brand-new revenue stream. Allowing fans to buy, sell, or trade a host of digital assets.
Conclusively, the report notes that fans will also be encouraged to start their own virtual business to resell LPF digital collectibles. Furthermore, the metaverse platform will host user-owned and operated shops located on the virtual property. Upland is mapping out its own digital world, fully equipped with “digital land ownership, asset creation, and a virtual economy.”
