As the former president of the United States prepares for his third such campaign, Donald Trump is reportedly returning to both Facebook and Twitter, according to CNBC. The divisive entity had recently pushed to have his accounts on the former unblocked in a letter to Meta.

Trump was banned on both Twitter and Facebook following the events of January 6th, 2021. The riot at the American capital was a difficult day in the recent history of the United States, and it marked the beginning of his absence on both of the biggest social media platforms on the planet.

Trump Back on Facebook and Twitter Amidst Campaign

There may not be a more controversial entity in world politics than Donald Trump. The 45th president of the United States has long stoked conflict between both sides of the political aisle. Subsequently, his announcement to once again run for president in 2024 has led to a plethora of reactions on both sides.

Yet, as his campaign begins its earliest stages, Donald Trump is officially returning to both Facebook and Twitter. The power of social media can’t be understated, and for the former president’s bid for reelection, his regained status on the platforms was a necessity.

Earlier this week, Trump reportedly sent a letter to Meta, the Zuckerberg-owned business that controls Facebook. Within the letter, Trump’s campaign shared the desire for him to regain his active status on the platform.

“We believe that the ban on President Trump’s account on Facebook has dramatically distorted and inhibited the public discourse,” the letter stated. Moreover, the letter spoke of the need for free speech amidst his impending campaign. It seems as though Meta agreed, restoring Trump’s account today.

Conversely, Twitter restored Trump’s account in early November, following Elon Musk’s criticism of the original ban. Now, in the early days of the campaign trail, Trump is undoubtedly preparing his next steps on the regained social media platforms very carefully.
