Charles Hoskinson, the founder of Cardano (ADA), recently held a surprise AMA on his official YouTube channel to discuss the current state of affairs and to answer some questions from the crypto community.

Towards the end of the almost 3-hour session, Hoskinson was asked by one user if there was one aspect of Ethereum that is better than Cardano in his opinion. Hoskinson is one of the co-founders of Ethereum, sure has his take on the second biggest blockchain project.

Hoskinson started his response by comparing the similarities between Ethereum and Cardano. He said,

“Ethereum in its current form is a subset of Cardano. Once side chains come, everything Ethereum is, Cardano is. They’re combined together.”

Hoskinson compared the two to the relationship between real numbers and integers. There are more integers, but they are contained within real numbers.

From a technological point of view, Hoskinson is not worried about Layer-1 Ethereum. However, he does say that he finds Ethereum’s Layer-2 initiative “fascinating”. Roll-ups, in particular, are a point of interest, and have a lot of  “magic”. He admits his admiration for the same.

Cardano, in his opinion, can do better as an ecosystem. They are currently researching roll-ups in the hydra protocol.

Ethereum vs. Cardano: Community building

According to Hoskinson, if one is intellectually honest, one has to admit that Ethereum has a humongous community. And although he has had some issues with the “arrogance, and elitist” behavior of the  Ethereum community, he says that they get things done, and are quite effective.

The Ethereum community has a problem-solving mindset which is seldom seen in other projects, he said. This, in Hoskinson’s opinion, is a testimony to Vitalik’s leadership. He goes on to say that Vitalik is very solutions and execution-oriented, which Hoskinson finds impressive.

Ethereum, in his view, paid attention to blockchain utilities that were nonmonetary. Ethereum helped bring in NFTs, blockchain gaming, and metaverses, which he finds “very cool”.

However, he did say that the Achilles heel in the Ethereum community is their inability to see their blindspots.

Hoskinson criticizes the Ethereum community for not recognizing the work done by many other good projects, and for brushing them aside.

Regarding the work done by Cardano (ADA), he states that;

“So much magic in what we’ve done. So much careful thought, so many thousands of conversations, so many thousands of meetings, countless hours of writing code and doing science and building things.”

This, in his opinion, cannot be dismissed just because of their distaste for Cardano’s founder.

The session was not just a critique, but there was also room for some laughter. Hoskinson updated the community on Cardano’s current plans and spoke on a plethora of topics.
