Rockstar Games officially released the first trailer of GTA 6 on Tuesday 12 hours before the actual release time. The trailer shows a female protagonist named Lucia and her male partner whose name is not mentioned. Social media is now flooded with details about GTA 6 being the first game in the franchise with a female protagonist. This is not true, as GTA 1 had four playable female characters in the lead, along with four male characters.

It took Rockstar Games 26 years to reintroduce a female protagonist in the upcoming GTA 6 franchise. The first four female leads were introduced in GTA 1 in 1997.
GTA 1 was released in 1997 and players could select eight different playable characters in the game. Out of the eight playable characters, four protagonists were female, and the other four characters were male. The names of the four female characters in GTA 1 were Divine, Katie, Mikki, and Ulrika.

The four female characters in GTA 1 came from different backgrounds and ethnicities. Divine was of African descent, while Katie was Hispanic. Additionally, Mikki was of Asian descent (Japanese), while Ulrika was depicted as Scandinavian descent.
The four male characters were named Bubba, Kivlov, Travis, and Troy. Bubba was shown as obese and tough originating from the Cuban or Hispanic descent. Kivlov was of the Slavic descent, while Travis and Troy were of the African ethnicity.

GTA 1 & GTA 6: Both Have Female Protagonists
Female lead characters are now back in the GTA franchise after a 26-year hiatus. Similar to GTA 1, GTA 6 will also have different playable characters both male and female. In GTA 5, users can play three different protagonists named Trevor, Michael, and Franklin. The game has earned more than $8 billion since 2013 and GTA Online is now the main source of income.
