It took Rockstar Games 26 years to reintroduce a female protagonist in the upcoming GTA 6 franchise. The first four female leads were introduced in GTA 1 in 1997.

GTA 1 was released in 1997 and players could select eight different playable characters in the game. Out of the eight playable characters, four protagonists were female, and the other four characters were male. The names of the four female characters in GTA 1 were Divine, Katie, Mikki, and Ulrika.
