One of the most well-known names in the automotive space is stepping further into the world of digital assets. Trademark attorney Michael Kondoudis tweeted that Mercedez-Benz has filed five trademark applications with the United States Patent and Trademark Office this month.
The German automobile corporation, Mercedez-Benz Group AG, is potentially seeking entry into the world of NFTs and the Metaverse through the applications. Moreover, specifics on the nature of the applications speak to what is to come from the car manufacturer.
Mercedez-Benz NFTs and Metaverse
On Dec14, Mercedez-Benz officially filed five separate trademark applications with the USPTO for use in the digital sphere. The applications were reported by NFT and metaverse licensed trademark attorney Michael Koundoudis in a tweet yesterday.
According to the information in that tweet, Mercedez-Benz filed to trademark several licenses. Among those, the company sought trademarks for Mercedez-Benz, Mercedes, S-Class, G-Class, and Maybach. Additionally, they filled a license for digital currency, NFTs, retail stores for virtual automotive parts, and cryptocurrency trading.
This is not the company’s first foray into the world of digital assets. Finbold reported that Daimler South East Asia, as part of the Mercedez-Benz group, announced a data-sharing network utilizing blockchain technology this summer. Furthermore, that network will leverage the Ethereum Layer-2 platform, Polygon.
That data-sharing platform has been revealed as Acentrink. Subsequently, it has been designed to allow businesses to purchase, sell, and trade data in a decentralized manner. Conversely, Mercedez-Benz’s entrance into the world of NFTs makes it among other automotive developers.
Hyundai Motor became the first car manufacturer to issue NFTs back in April. Thereafter, MacLaren developed limited-edition NFTs in a collaboration with MSO LAB. Formula One also integrates NFTs and the metaverse.
