Non-fungible tokens a.k.a NFTs have been the face of the crypto market. NFT centric projects like Bored Ape Yacht Club [BAYC], as well as Mutant Ape Yacht Club [MAYC], were seen running the show. Bored Ape Yacht Club particularly, witnessed massive growth since April as its sales have skyrocketed.
As we begin 2022, a look back at 2021 reveals the increased traction NFTs have garnered. Sports personalities, singers, actors, politicians along with the average Joe were smitten by the NFT bug. The NFT collection curated by the Bored Ape Yacht Club was a go-to for many enthusiasts. This further bolstered the adoption and pushed the total sales since April to over $1 billion.
According to CryptoSlam, the total sales of BAYC, as of today stands at a high of $1.03 billion. While this was limited to USD, the platform’s sales in ETH were at 299,570.9947.
August seemed to be a great month for BAYC as it generated about $297 million. Within just four days since 1 January, Bored Ape managed to record sales worth $55 million. The platform ended 2021 on a great note and stepped into 2022 persisting the hot streak.
Prominent rapper, Eminem had a great role to play in the January sales. The rapper purchased Bored Ape #9055 for $452k or 123.45 ETH. Eminem isn’t the only celebrity who went big on BAYC’s NFTs. An array of them including, Post Malone, Martin Garrix, DJ Khaled, Steve Aoki, Diplo jumped on to the Bored Ape bandwagon.
Tron Foundation’s founder, Justin Sun also made massive purchases of Joker-inspired artwork by BAYCTron. Sun spent over $15 million on his latest acquisition.
Bored Ape Yacht Club rival earns big
As per Chinese crypto journalist, Colin Wu, a new kind of NFT collection, Prime Ape Planet was making a grand entrance into the crypto market. This brand new platform surpassed both Bored Ape Yacht Club as well as Mutant Ape Yacht Club in terms of 24-hours sales.
Even though Prime Ape Planet managed to snatch the top spot today, it still had a long way to beat BAYC’s $1 billion mark.
