Elon Musk has firmly denied having any conversations about cryptocurrency with former President and current presidential candidate Donald Trump. This statement comes in response to a Bloomberg report that suggested Trump has discussed crypto-related issues with Musk. On X [formerly Twitter], Musk clarified the situation by saying,

“Pretty sure I’ve never discussed crypto with Trump, although I am generally in favor of things that shift power from government to the people, which crypto can do.”

Trump’s Pro-Crypto Campaign Strategy

This development occurs as Trump actively engages with the cryptocurrency sector as part of his 2024 presidential campaign. Trump has made several pro-crypto statements and promises, including supporting crypto companies and showing a willingness to embrace digital assets. He has even pledged to commute the sentence of Ross Ulbricht, founder of Silk Road, an online marketplace known for illegal drug and hacking tool sales via cryptocurrencies.

Additionally, Trump’s campaign has started accepting donations in cryptocurrency, further demonstrating his endorsement of digital currencies. Earlier this month, Trump vowed to end the regulatory hostility towards the crypto industry if re-elected. He stated,

“Well, we’ll stop it because I don’t want that. If we’re going to embrace it, we have to let them be.”

These actions are part of Trump’s broader strategy to attract a wider voter base, especially those involved in or supportive of the cryptocurrency industry. His pro-crypto stance is likely to resonate with a significant portion of the tech-savvy electorate.

Did Trump Make this Donation following Elon Musk’s Advise?

In related news, the political action committee Fairshake received a $25 million donation from venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz [a16z]. This donation followed reports suggesting Trump sought advice on cryptocurrency policy from Elon Musk, which he has denied.

As the 2024 election approaches, cryptocurrency regulation and support continue to be significant issues. Both Trump and Biden appear to be positioning themselves to win favour with the crypto community. Despite Musk’s denial of direct talks with Trump, his influence highlights the critical role prominent figures play in shaping the future of cryptocurrency policy in the United States.
