OpenAI is looking to release an AI-powered web browser to rival Google Chrome, according to a report from Reuters. The AI powerhouse will use artificial intelligence to change the way consumers browse the web, and will reportedly launch in the coming weeks.

OpenAI’s ChatGPT software has over 400 million weekly active users. If they were to all flock to the new OpenAI web browser, that could put major pressure on Google and its Chrome browser. According to Reuters, the OpenAI web browser is designed to keep some user interactions within a ChatGPT-like native chat interface instead of clicking through to websites.

OpenAI has been exploring new ventures as it is rumored to be splitting from its partnership with Windows developer Microsoft (MSFT). The new OpenAI browser faces steep competition: Google Chrome, which is used by more than 3 billion people, currently holds more than two-thirds of the worldwide browser market, according to web analytics firm StatCounter. In a distant second place is Apple’s Safari.
