John Deaton, a lawyer and pro-Ripple XRP politician, is launching a bid for Elizabeth Warren’s senate seat. Warren currently occupies the Massachusetts Senate seat.
After teasing a potential run over the past week, Deaton and his team launched the official campaign website this past weekend. The lawyer also shared he will run as a Republican against the current senator, alleging that Warren “gets nothing done” for the state of Massachusetts.
John Deaton is one of the founders of CryptoLaw US in 2021, covering key US legal and regulatory developments in the world of cryptocurrency. He is a known supporter of Ripple XRP, the digital currency of Ripple Labs, who were involved in a high-stakes court battle against the SEC throughout 2023.
Warren, on the other hand, is a strong critic of XRP and all of cryptocurrency. The current Massachusetts senator believes that crypto is a gateway for criminals and wrongdoers to finance their illegal activity. While Deaton was supportive of the passing of Bitcoin ETFs in January, Warren criticized the SEC for the approval.
John Deaton has said that he won’t back his Senate campaign on crypto or base it on his support of cryptocurrency. However, Deaton’s support for the crypto economy would be a big help for the space if he were to win the seat in a state as big as Massachusetts. Furthermore, him coming in and Warren losing her seat is a double win for crypto, most enthusiasts would argue.
