Shiba Inu [SHIB] and Dogecoin [DOGE] have certainly made it big. Despite being born out of memes, they’ve emerged as prominent assets. While jumping on to the crypto bandwagon, individuals, as well as mainstream firms, make sure to include SHIB and DOGE. Similarly, adhering to the crypto community’s demand, the world’s largest cinema chain decided to explore the meme street of the crypto-verse.
After a long wait, the CEO of AMC, Adam Aron finally announced that the platform had opened its doors to Shiba Inu and Dogecoin payments. In a recent tweet, Aron pointed out that the community was ecstatic over this inclusion. His tweet further read,
The onset of the pandemic put many platforms out of business. AMC, despite being the largest cinema chain, had to pull the plug on two of its theatres. However, the addition of cryptocurrencies like Shiba Inu and the comeback of theatres could certainly take AMC places.
Batman is one of the biggest movies of the year and AMC was all set to make up for its losses. People paying in crypto would be an added advantage. Elaborating on the latest movies, Aron tweeted,
“Batman is the hero of Gotham and of AMC. AMC’s 3rd biggest weekend in more than 2 years, behind only 1st and 2nd weekends of December’s Spider-Man. 4 million guests in AMC theatres globally. More than the same weekend in 2019 or 2020. Movie theatres are coming back. #CHOKEonTHAT”
Shiba Inu and Dogecoin weren’t the first choices for AMC
AMC’s love for crypto started back in 2021 when Aron revealed that the cinema chain would start accepting Bitcoin [BTC], Litecoin [LTC], Bitcoin Cash [BCH] as well as Ethereum [ETH] for payments. The community certainly wasn’t okay with this. They wanted more. While the DOGE community pitched the idea of onboarding their favorite meme coin, Shib Army followed suit.
Two Twitter polls later, AMC decided to include Dogecoin and Shiba Inu to the list. Additionally, speaking about the crypto industry in general, Aron recently said,
“Only time will tell how big cryptocurrency is.”
