U.K. to Expand Crypto Investigation Team

The U.K.’s National Crime Agency is looking to expand its crypto investigation team. The agency intends to add a handful of members. It is on the lookout for one Digital Assets Disclosure Officer, two Digital Assets Crypto Financial Investigations Managers, and four Digital Assets Senior Investigators.

What Do the NCA’s Crypto Roles Deal With?

In January 2023, the NCA launched its Digital Assets Team to focus on crypto and other related assets. All the new roles listed above pertain to this team. The teams are expected to carry out investigations into complex blockchain technology-enabled crime. According to the official posts, this included the disruption of criminal activity within virtual arenas, ”high end of high harm” crypto and virtual assets fraud, and money laundering offenses carried out by significant organized crime groups and state actors. With respect to the senior investigators’ role, the official post highlighted,

The role will include working alongside and collaborating with investigators, intelligence and analysis staff to fully develop complex cases drawing on data, evidence, and intelligence from a wide variety of sources.

Team members will also have to have oversight of complex investigations involving crypto from a regulatory perspective. This means they will have to ensure that investigations are fully in compliance with the Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act.
