Vitalik Buterin is a prominent figure in the cryptocurrency industry. He is one of the co-founders of Ethereum (ETH), the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization. In one of his recent Twitter space episodes, Buterin stated that Bitcoin needs a scalable solution like ZK-rollups and Layer-2. He added that such a scalable solution is necessary to level up Bitcoin from being just a payment network.

Buterin spoke about Ethereum and its scaling solutions

During his discussion, Buterin shared insights into Ethereum’s implementation of scaling solutions to enhance transaction throughput over time. He highlighted Optimism and Arbitrum as notable examples of successful roll-up projects during his discussion. He suggests that these projects could provide valuable insights and lessons that are applicable as case studies for Bitcoin.

Buterin expressed the opinion that if Bitcoin aims to expand beyond its current role in payments, it would benefit from exploring additional scaling solutions.

Vitalik Buterin acknowledged the significance of Bitcoin’s layer-2 solution, the Lightning Network, in addressing scalability challenges. He also commended the emergence of Bitcoin Ordinals, which have played a role in expanding the network beyond its traditional payment capabilities.

Buterin expressed his belief that the Ordinals have revitalized a culture of innovation and development within the Bitcoin ecosystem.
