Bored Ape Yacht Club

Bored Ape Yacht Club is arguably one of the top and most successful non-fungible token projects launched in 2021. By sales volume, this NFT has consistently ranked in the top 5, according to CryptoSlam data. But what exactly makes it a favorite in the NFT community?

Bored Ape Yacht Club Launch

Bored Ape Yacht Club was launched on April 23 through Discord. At launch, it did not gain much attention. People started buying the Bored Apes on April 30, following the launch of other NFTs. One day later, on May 1, all the 10,000 Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs had been sold out.

According to the BAYC website: “Each Bored Ape is unique and programmatically generated from over 170 possible traits, including expression, headwear, clothing, and more. All apes are dope, but some are rarer than others.”

Owning a Bored Ape amounts to much more than owning a provably unique piece of art. You also get the rights for commercial usage of the image. Owners are using the images of their bored apes on their Twitter profiles and other social media accounts.

Bored Ape owners also get access to The Bathroom, an exclusive members-only graffiti board.

On launch, the team behind this NFT project promised additional benefits for members through the activation of different items highlighted on the roadmap. The team seems to be keeping its word.

Bored Ape Kennel Club

On June 18, the Bored Ape Kennel Club was launched and was given free to The Bored Ape Yacht Club members (members only had to pay for the cost of gas).

It gets lonely in the swamp sometimes. That’s why every ape should have a four-legged companion,” the description of the Bored Ape Kennel Club states.

The Bored Ape Kennel Club NFT has been relatively as successful as its predecessor. According to CryptoSlam, over the past month, the NFT ranks in the top 20, with $29 million in transactions and a 67% growth from the previous month.

Experts attribute the success of the Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT project to the detailed roadmap, relatable avatars, commercial usage rights for owners, and overall good leadership.

Some celebrities rumored to be Bored Ape owners include Mark Cuban KSI and NBA stars Tyrese Haliburton, Josh Hart, and LaMelo Ball.

The community could be another reason behind the success of the NFT. Bore Ape owners held in-person meetings in California, and meetings are being planned in New York.
