One of Australia’s largest convenience stores and gas station ‘On The Run’ (OTR) will soon accept payments in cryptocurrencies. OTR will accept cryptos in over 170 stores across two states mainly South Australia and Victoria. OTR has a big presence in Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney among other cities with a large customer base. The development will allow customers to pay for snacks and gas with the new mode of payment. OTR will accept 30 different cryptocurrencies across all its outlets. However, the store has not made public the coins it will accept yet.
Also, OTR stores are open 24-hours a day, 7-days a week making it convenient for customers to drop-in at any time.
The retail giant will start accepting cryptos in July this year. Customers can pay through cryptocurrencies at SubWay, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, OTR Supermarkets, OTS gas stations, SmokeMart, SA Lotteries, Oporto, and Hungry Jacks, among others.
The development will kickstart the acceptancy of cryptocurrencies across Australia. Other retail giants are also expected to follow its success route.
On The Run, who’s parent company is Peregrine Corporation, is collaborating with Crypto.com to integrate the crypto payment merchant services. A Sydney-based payment systems provider will roll out crypto payment methods at the check-out terminals. Shoppers can pay through Crypto.com app and purchase products at the store with their desired crypto holdings.
Peregrines’ executive chairman Yasser Shahin stated that OTR intends to tap into the momentum of cryptos by providing various payment options to its customers. “The growth and mainstream acceptance of cryptocurrency adoption in Australia and the rest of the world has been phenomenal, and has offered us a clear opportunity to tap into the momentum of this fast-growing space for the benefit of our customers,” he said to CoinTelegraph.
