Former President and 2024 Republican Nominee Donald Trump called himself a “crypto president” at a tech fundraiser in San Francisco. Per a report from Reuters, Trump raised $12 million from the fundraiser hosted by tech venture capitalists David Sacks and Chamath Palihapitiya. Trevor Traina, a San Francisco-based tech executive and former Trump ambassador to Austria, said that Donald Trump “said he would be the crypto president,” in a speech at the event.
Trump touted crypto as important and stressed that he was very supportive of the sector. This is according to Republican National Committeewoman Harmeet Dhillon, who also attended the fundraiser. According to Dhillon, Trump did not offer specifics on his proposed crypto policy.
Donald Trump has become one of a small group of politicians and government officials to support cryptocurrency innovation. Owning his own cryptocurrency, as well as offering crypto as a donation option for his campaign, Trump is appealing to the cryptocurrency community ahead of the 2024 election.
