Epic Games CEO, Tim Sweeney, slams the Fortnite token as a scam. He said that the lawyers are planning to take action against the promoters of Fortnite tokens.
Epic Games is the team behind the Fortnite game. Tim Sweeney made it clear that the game doesn’t have an official token, and everything that circulates on social media in the name of the game is a scam. He also bashed crypto exchanges for listing the fake Fornite token.
Fortnite is a popular game released in 2017. The game now has over 350 million registered players worldwide.
“There isn’t a Fortnite cryptocurrency. The Twitter accounts promoting such a thing are a scam. Epic’s lawyers are on it. Also, shame on the cryptocurrency marketplaces that enable this kind of thing.”
Tim also blasts exchanges to follow due diligence
Tim Sweeney was particularly highlighting a Fortnite token that was trading on PancakeSwap, SushiSwap, and CronaSwap. He commented on the Fortnite Token tweets claiming that the project is a scam and that everyone involved is being scammed.
The Fortnite token didn’t agree with his comment and wrote:
“Fortnite Token isn’t a scam cryptocurrency project. Instead, this is a fair-launch, community-driven, Fortnite game fans-created cryptocurrency project with no specified owner or company structure behind it or a CEO deciding on its future.”
Sweeney didn’t quite agree with the statement and said that using the game’s name and images without permission to market an unrelated product is not how trademarks and copyrights work.
But considering the popularity of the game, the token doesn’t seem to do well, as the 24-hour trading volume on PancakeSwap is zero. Scammers trying to cash in on different popular projects is not a new scheme. Major firms have always ended up going behind copyright issues that often end up as great pain for the firm.
