Funko, the pop-culture collectible company best known for its bobbleheads, is teaming up with Warner Brothers once again, and this time within the realms of Crypto and web3. The two companies will create physical and digital copies (NFT) of collectible DC comics, for sale exclusively through Walmart.
As per reports, the phygital (physical + digital) combo will include a comic book cover from DC’s (Detective Comics) “The Brave and The Bold.” The collectible will be available as a physical copy, and as an NFT (non-fungible token). Collectors only just need to connect their wallet to redeem the NFT. The digital copy is minted on the World Asset eXchange blockchain (WAX).
There are a total of 30,000 units, and sale will begin on the 7th of October.
The timing of the collaboration could not have come at a better time. Just last week, on the 17th of September, DC fans celebrated Batman Day, to remember the “world’s greatest detective.” Hence to have a phygital collection release at almost the same time, truly brings a smile to hardcore DC fans.
According to Funko CEO Andrew Perlmutter, the company aims to “marry the two worlds.” In other words, Funko aims to bring physical collectibles into the crypto realm, or the digital digital world.
Now, this is not Funko first foray into NFTs. The company recently launched The DC Digital Pop! series, which featured iconic characters such as Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, etc.
Will the NFTs market rebound?
NFTs have lost the hype that surrounded it in 2021. However, the awareness of non-fungibles continue to grow. On top of that, companies and firms are becoming more and more aware of the importance of the digital realm. The future is undoubtedly beyond the physical. Hence it is of no surprise that companies are already preparing for the switch.
NFTs will play a central role in the coming times. Going beyond just collectible art, the industry will, most likely, transition into our daily lives. Blockchain tech, NFTs and metaverses seem to be where the human kind is headed. Therefore, it is likely that the NFT markets will once again pick up the pace, once the larger financial markets climb out of its current slump.
