Netflix introduced its gaming division a while back, primarily focused on mobile gaming, featuring popular series such as Stranger Things, Squid Game, and Wednesday. Recent reports indicate that Netflix is currently in negotiations to secure the licensing rights for a Grand Theft Auto [GTA] game from Take-Two Interactive, the game’s publisher.

These speculations emerged when the streaming company began featuring licensed games such as Balloons TD 6 and Valiant Hearts, which diverged from their usual content. Subscribers have the opportunity to play these games for free via the Netflix app. The primary aim is to retain existing users rather than using the games as a means to attract potential customers.

In addition to this, the development of GTA 6 is currently underway. It is anticipated that Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games may launch GTA 6 within the window spanning from April 1, 2024, to March 31, 2025.

Consequently, there are numerous rumors circulating regarding the game. This includes main characters, location, and the possibility of incorporating any crypto-related elements. Nevertheless, the crypto-related claims lack concrete evidence. There are, however, more in the realm of unfounded speculations. Several leaks have provided some insights into the initial development plans for the game, including the likelihood of GTA 6 being based in a setting inspired by Miami’s Vice City.

So is Netflix really partnering up with GTA?

According to an analyst cited by the Wall Street Journal, Netflix has invested a substantial $1 billion in gaming and is poised to extend its gaming service to include AAA titles. The company is also actively seeking to bring in more game executives.

However, Netflix’s official stance on the possibility of a GTA game appearing on their platform is that it is currently no more than “rumors” and “speculation.” They also chose not to provide any additional comments on the topic.
