Hackers Steal 32 NFTs in new Compromise of Bored Ape Discord Server

Hackers have stolen not less than 32 non-fungible tokens (NFTs) in the early hours of Saturday after they gained access to the Discord servers of two Yuga Lab’s projects, Bored Ape Yacht Club and OtherSide Metaverse.

The hack was first noticed by on-chain analyst OkHotShot who indicated that the hackers might have gotten access to servers because the account of the project’s Community Manager, Boris Vagner, was breached by yet-to-be-identified individuals. Per OkHotShot, over 145 ETH ($256,000) was stolen by the hackers.

Leading blockchain security firm, PeckShield, later confirmed that the Bored Ape and OtherSide discord hack did happen.

According to the blockchain firm, the hacker stole 32 NFTs. The stolen NFTs included 1 BAYC, 2 MAYC, 5 Otherdeeds, and 1 BAKC.

Per available information, the scammers carried out a phishing attack, luring unsuspecting community members of the Discord channel via the promise of an exclusive giveaway.

Once these users clicked on the link, which unknown to them was malicious, the hackers were able to access their accounts, draining the NFTs they hold.

Bored Ape Suffers Second Discord Attack in 2 Months

Meanwhile, this is not the first time that the social media channels of Bored Ape would be compromised by attackers. Earlier in the year, its Instagram account and Discord channel suffered a hack that led to the loss of roughly $13 million.

The frequency of these attacks on Bored Ape might not be unconnected to the fact that its collection is regarded to be one of the most prized assets in the NFT space. The NFT collection has recorded over $2 billion in secondary sales.

It should be noted that this type of attack is not unprecedented in the crypto space. Several crypto projects have been targeted by malicious players through different phishing attempts.

OkHotShot revealed that other NFT collections like Camo Chameleon Club, Wibin Wolves, Art of Mob, Not Bored Apes (solana), and Cardania had Discord channels hacked today.
