In a recent Tweet, O’Shea Jackson Sr., popularly known as the rapper and actor, Ice Cube, has revealed that he is a Dogecoin (DOGE) supporter, and also possibly an investor.
Ice Cube was asked by Bill Lee, co-founder of Craft Ventures, on Twitter if his venture, Big3, would accept Dogecoin (DOGE) as payment for some Fire-Tier editions of Aliens. To this, the rapper replied,
“I’m down with the DogeArmy.”
It was later revealed, and also shared by Ice Cube, that Lee used Dogecoin to buy 25 Fire-Tier versions of BIG3’s Aliens for DOGE, worth an awesome $600,000, making it the largest commercial transaction in the cryptocurrency’s history. Lee, who goes by the Twitter handle WestCoastBill, is also the founder of MyDoge, a self-custodial Dogecoin wallet, and is bringing both MyDoge and Dogecoin into the fold.
Big3 is a 3-on-3 basketball league launched by Ice Cube and entertainment businessman Jeff Kwatinetz. The league has 12 clubs with former NBA players as well as foreign talents on their rosters. Big3 games include regulations that differ from FIBA’s official 3-on-3 basketball rules. The company made headlines when it was revealed that fans could purchase an ownership stake in the teams, which would be done via an NFT (Non-Fungible Token).
BIG3 co-founder, Jeff Kwatinetz, said,
“We are thrilled to partner up with Bill and have the MyDoge and Dogecoin communities be represented by the Aliens. We have made history with this transaction, and we hope it inspires others in the Doge world to support the team whether by purchasing the Gold-Tiers, by attending games, or by tuning in.”
Ice Cube is also a long-time collaborator of Dr. Dre, who helped co-found the hip-hop record label, Death Row, which has now been turned into an NFT label by fellow musician Snoop Dogg.
At press time, Dogecoin (DOGE) was trading at $0.134383.
