Prominent web browser, Opera seems to be elevating its interest in crypto with the addition of Solana [SOL], Polygon [MATIC], Bitcoin [BTC], and a few other cryptocurrencies. These coins will reportedly join Ethereum [ETH] in Opera’s in-browser crypto wallet.
The crypto bug hasn’t spared anyone. As the need to digitalize everything surges, platforms across the globe have been making essential alterations. Similarly, Opera wanted to revolutionize the web browsing space with the addition of crypto. Apart from Solana, Polygon, and Bitcoin, the other assets part of this development were StarkEx, Ronin, Celo, Nervos DAO, and IXO.
The latest inclusion wasn’t limited to just crypto wallets. With the integration of the aforementioned assets, users will have access to both the blockchain as well as decentralized apps [dapps] of these coins.
Jorgen Arnesen, EVP Mobile at Opera pointed out how the firm was indulging in partnerships with several blockchain and web3 firms since 2018 itself. The firm reportedly did so to provide momentum to the crypto evolution and trigger mass adoption. Arnesen added,
“Ultimately, Web3 is on its way to becoming a mainstream web technology and users won’t need to know they’re interacting with it. They need to get a superior user experience and a true benefit.”
Opera looks beyond Ethereum
Just last month, Opera rolled out the Crypto Browser Project that permitted users from accessing their wallets without logging in. Right after this, the firm wanted to explore Ethereum layer 2. As part of the same, Opera seems to have welcomed Ethereum layer 2 projects Polygon as well as StarkEx. Unlike Ethereum, these blockchains facilitate lower fees and faster transactions.
Apart from this, Solana has been popular as an Ethereum killer. The altcoin has been performing immensely well over the last couple of weeks. The consistent developments and 23 percent weekly surge have led to SOL becoming the talk of the crypto town. This could have further accelerated the process of onboarding the altcoin into Opera.
At present, only Polygon and Polygon dapps are available on in the Crypto Browser Project. However, Solana and the rest of the assets are available only in Opera for Android. In the next couple of months, they would be included in the project as well.
